After a three-year hiatus, Colleen and Chris reunited for an evening of Winston-Salem Dash baseball. Colleen and husband Jon were passing through the Piedmont on their way to Saturday's race in Bristol, creating an opportunity to both hang out and update the blog.
The weather cooperated (unlike the last time Colleen and Chris tried to attend a Dash game, when there was a long rain delay at the start). Colleen and Jon presented Chris with gifts from their trips to the Lowell Spinners games, and Chris observed Colleen's request to wear the mascot hat. Picture to come I'm sure.
As for the game, the Dash only got 5 hits, with first baseman Keon Barnum getting 4 of them, and the home team lost 2-1. More importantly, Chris continued the tradition of buying frozen lemonade for he and Colleen. Colleen observed that the game was moving quickly and that we shouldn't delay the purchase, which was the right call.
Colleen tallied all the points so I'll let her do the recap, but it was revealed during the game that I was leading. When I threatened to put it in shutdown mode to cruise to victory, Colleen warned that would result in a points loss. Colleen had a BBQ sandwich, Chris had a Carolina Dog (very good) and if I recall correctly Jon got the burger combo. Points were rewarded to the national anthem singer, though overall the Dash struggled to score points (both on the field and from Colleen).
Topics discussed included Colleen and Jon's life in Massachusetts, Chris and his return to North Carolina and WXII, past and present coworkers, the quality of the seats (fourth row), comparisons about the new park versus Historic Ernie Shore Field, and much more.
Alas, the game ended and Colleen, Chris and Jon made their way to the exits. Hugs and handshakes were shared, and Chris wished Colleen and Jon a safe trip to Bristol.
A good time was had by all. - POSTED BY CHRIS
